The mission of the Rural Women's Health Project is to work with rural communities to strengthen their capacity to overcome health barriers. Utilizing a community-based approach, community members are involved in all grassroots research, educational campaigns, trainings and bridging to services—thereby broadening their skills to replicate programs and advocacy strategies.

Our Team

The RWHP has a multi-lingual, multi-cultural team working together on its projects:

  • Fran Ricardo, Director of Education - Serves as administrative director, bringing a background in education, advocacy and marketing.  BA in Education, University of Florida College of Education.
  • Robin Lewy, Director of Development - Coordinates workshops and trainings, provides direction on community development and popular education. MA in Community Development and Popular Theatre, University of Nebraska/Omaha.
  • Ana Laura Bolaños, Site Coordinator - Serves as community-based liaison for Florida /Promotor/ Initiatives and co-coordinates community material development work.
  • Nikki Edwards, Art and Media Director - Provides design, layout and pre-press expertise for print media. Maintains the RWHP's online presence by designing and updating the website and providing content for social media and networking accounts. BS in Advertising and Communication, University of Florida.
  • Atiba Nelson, Project Consultant - Article development, research support. BS in Communications, Simon Fraser University; MPH, University of Florida, School of Public Health.
  • Fabiola del Castillo, Women’s Health Consultant - Offers expertise in cross-border women’s health and Hispanic women’s health cultural. Lic. Anthropology, Universidad de Antropología y Historia, Mexico, DF; MA in Anthropology pending, University of Massachusetts, School of Anthropology
  • Allysen Kerr, Intern, Media/Promotions Assistant - Provides online multimedia and promotional materials for the RWHP. Bachelors in Science Pending in Journalism from the University of Florida, College of Journalism and Communications.
  • Allison Krueger, Communications Director - Responsible for creating communication strategies and media relations.
  • Tamiria Long, Health Promotion – African-American Tuberculosis Project Coordinator-Offers community and youth based health promotion. BS In Health Education, Specialization in Community Health; LPN, Santa Fe Community
