When Inocencio wakes up after a night of intense partying, he is overwhelmed with regrets...

Inocencio is in a dangerous spiral of alcohol abuse and nights of unprotected sex. After one long night, Inocencio realizes that his behavior has put him not only at risk for increased addiction to drugs and alcohol, but also at risk for HIV infection.

After a twist of events exposes his reckless behavior, witness Inocencio evolve as he begins to take control of his life, beginning with HIV testing.

According to the Florida Bureau of HIV/AIDS:
Most people diagnosed with AIDS before the age of 30 were  infected with HIV in their teens or early twenties. This illustrates the importance of advocating prevention so that people have the
information and resources they need to protect themselves and each other when they make decisions about experimentation with drugs and sex.3

Luckily, Inocencio had a cousin willing to share his experiences in a way that changed his life. In the RWHP fotonovela, Rude Awakening (Un Cruel Despertar) and other educational materials, characters like Inocencio share their experiences and knowledge about HIV/AIDS,  integrated within stories drawn from real-life community members’ testimonies.
